in 2025 Phyllis Croisant developed an End of Life Resource Guide for First Mennonite Church. Pastor Michael wrote in the introduction: As you consult this guide, you are encouraged to invite the FMC community into your spiritual journey with death and dying.

This resource has 2 sections. The first is End-of-Life Resources at FMC which covers three topics: Death & Dying in Christian Community; Resources Offered By First Mennonite Church; and What to Do When a Death Occurs. This section focuses on how FMC can be a support at the time of need.

The second section is Advance Planning for End of Life. This guide is an invitation to think about, discuss and communicate plans in preparation for aging, illness, and the end of life. The intention is to simplify advance care planning and final arrangements and give guidance regarding some of these important decisions. It is beneficial to you and your loved ones to make thoughtful plans in advance, while not under emotional distress. Preparing for life’s end and making your wishes known can be a great gift of kindness and love for your family and those you care about. Information and resources are included covering financial planning (wills, trusts, beneficiaries, power of attorney for property, etc.), advance planning for health care (living wills, advance directives, power of attorney, etc.), planning for disposition of the body (burial, cremation, greener options, etc.), and funeral or memorial service planning. Information and resources are specific to Illinois law. And advice is included on how to save money and what your rights are as a consumer under the FTC Funeral Rule.

May this guide be useful in your journey.
